# BackupWatch

> Self-hosted backup heartbeat monitoring for MSPs. BackupWatch polls the mailbox your backup notifications already reach, tracks every job's schedule and grace window, and alerts your team once when an expected backup email never arrives. No endpoint agents. Unlimited clients and jobs on one flat licence.

## What it does

- Polls one notification mailbox every five minutes: Microsoft 365 (Graph API), Google Workspace (OAuth2 or App Password), or generic IMAP (SSL/TLS or STARTTLS).
- Parses Veeam Backup & Replication, Synology Active Backup, DropSuite and CloudAlly notifications out of the box; any other vendor via custom sender/subject/body rules.
- Every job carries a schedule (daily or interval) and a grace window. No success email by the deadline is a missed backup. Inbox rules cannot detect this, because a rule cannot fire on an email that was never sent.
- Alerts are sent by SMTP once per missed window (no alert storms), plus a daily digest.
- Auto-Ingest discovers, names and provisions new Veeam jobs for known clients automatically.
- Each client page shows a 30-day backup history; export as PDF or CSV for client audits.
- NOC mode: a read-only wall-display kiosk with a 30-day session and 60-second refresh.
- /healthz endpoint for external uptime monitors (UptimeRobot, Pingdom, Better Stack).

## Deployment

- Ubuntu 22.04 LTS VPS or VM, 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM. Single Python FastAPI process with SQLite. No Docker, no Redis, no external database.
- Install: download the release zip, unzip to /opt/backupwatch, run deploy/install.sh --domain your.domain. The installer configures systemd, nginx and HTTPS.
- 100% self-hosted. Client names, hostnames and email content never leave your server. The only outbound traffic is to your mailbox provider, your SMTP server, and a daily licence heartbeat with no client data.

## Pricing (introductory launch pricing for v1.0)

- Free: up to 5 active backup jobs, full features, no signup, no credit card, no time limit.
- Monthly: USD $49 per month, unlimited clients and jobs.
- Annual: USD $499 per year, unlimited clients and jobs (about 15% off monthly).
- Licence keys are Ed25519-signed and delivered by email; paste into Settings > Licensing. 7-day renewal grace period.
